Module I (85 Hours) Launch your CASAC training with this comprehensive 85-hour foundational module. Designed for working professionals, classes are held conveniently virtually on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and are split into two manageable sections (44 hours and 41 hours). This course provides the essential framework for addiction professionals by exploring the physical, psychological, and pharmacological effects of substances—including a dedicated 2.5 hours on Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT)—alongside a deep dive into the history and overview of the substance use disorder field. Students will examine diverse intervention strategies such as person-centered care, harm reduction, cannabis use disorder diagnostics, opioid overdose prevention, and block grant funding requirements. Additionally, the curriculum covers vital clinical skills, including an introduction to diagnostic criteria and assessment tools (DSM, ICD, ASI, OASAS LOCADTR, and ASAM criteria), the clinical utilization of toxicology screening, and the role of 12-step and mutual aid groups in long-term recovery.
