Pharmacy Technician

This comprehensive 62.5-hour course will prepare you to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Tech Certification Board's (PTCB) examination. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy; reading and interpreting prescriptions; and defining drugs by generic and brand names. You will learn dosage calculations; I.V. flow rates; drug compounding; dose conversions; dispensing of prescriptions; inventory control; billing; and reimbursement.

Career information: Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, pharmacy technicians work in retail, mail-order and home infusion pharmacies; hospitals; long term care facilities; clinics; and in other healthcare settings.

Certification Exam: After successful completion of this course, you will be qualified to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's (PTCB) exam. To be eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Examination, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have never been convicted of a felony.

Prerequisites: 18 years of age and have no felony convictions.  You must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and should have taken math and science courses in high school to be successful in this course.
